Getting Started
As a Little League volunteer, there are a few safety training requirements (outlined below). Additionally, volunteers are encouraged to be familiar with our AWLL Safety Plan, which outlines what to do if someone is injured, if there is inclement weather, etc. Please contact our Safety Officer if you have any comments and/or suggestions.
Volunteer Training Requirements
Volunteer Application
- All volunteers must apply online to be a AWLL volunteer each year.
- The application is done when you register your player, or you can apply through your AWLL Sports Connect account.
Background Check
- All volunteers (excluding umpires) must pass an annual background check through AWLL.
- Umpires complete their background check through the Umpire Registry process.
- Your volunteer application initiates the background check.
- If you have not done so already, once you receive the email with the link and instructions, complete the questionnaire.
Abuse Awareness for Adults
- All volunteers must complete the “Adult Abuse Awareness Training” annually.
- Course provides information to create a positive and safe environment.
- Sign-in/register to USA Baseball Develop website.
- Select “Education”, “Courses” and then select the Abuse Awareness Training.
- A completion certificate is generated. Please send a copy to the AWLL Safety Officer.
- Completion certificates can also be downloaded from the USA Baseball Develops homepage: hover over your name in the top right corner, click “account”, then “courses” and then “download certificate”.
Safety Requirements (Managers, Coaches & Safety Parents)
Basic First Aid Training
- Complete the “Basic First Aid Training” annually.
- Sign-in/register to USA Baseball Develop website.
- Select “Education”, “Courses” and then select the Basic First Aid Training.
- A completion certificate is generated. Please send a copy to the AWLL Safety Officer.
- Completion certificates can also be downloaded from the USA Baseball Develops homepage: hover over your name in the top right corner, click “account”, then “courses” and then “download certificate”.
Concussions Training
- Complete the CDC HEADS UP to Youth Sports: Online Training for Coaches every 3 years.
- If completed in the last 3 years, please send a copy of the completion certificate to our AWLL Safety Officer.
- Sign-in/register to the CDC Train Website.
- Search/launch the “HEADS UP to Youth Sports: Online Training for Coaches” course.
- Complete course, exit and go to “post-assessment”. You must pass with an 80%.
- Exit assessment and select “certificate”. Please send a copy to our AWLL Safety Officer.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
Safety Requirements
(Managers Only)
CPR Training
- Managers for the rookies and higher divisions must complete CPR training every 2 years.
- If completed in the last 2 years, please send a copy of the completion certificate / CPR card to the AWLL Safety Officer.
- If you do not have a current CPR card, the AWLL Safety Officer will assign on-line training to you.
- Upon completion, please send a copy of the completion certificate to our AWLL Safety Officer.
Concessions Volunteers Only
Alaska Food Workers Card is not required for volunteer activities. Please see reference here
Some individuals may not need a food worker card if their role does not include working with unpackaged or potentially hazardous food or food-contact surfaces.
Examples of activities that do not require someone to have a food worker card include:
- Greeting or seating customers in a restaurant
- Processing payment for food or other purchases
- Working only with pre-packaged food (cashiers, grocery baggers, delivery drivers, warehouse workers, shelf stockers, etc.)
- Assisting patients or residents with their meals at a hospital, assisted living home, rehabilitation center, etc.
- Children under the age of 18 assisting with school meal service in a school kitchen
- Volunteer activities
